How old is this Chinese gymnast ?
He Kexing is a true gymnastics phenomena.
But, there's a problem, we don't actually know her age.
To participate to the Olympics, the legal age is 16.
Unfortunately, The New-York Times recently unveiled informations that shows He Kexing was born on January, 1st of 1994. So she must be 14.
This great gymnast that already won 2 international competitions and the Chinese championship has integrated the official olympic team a few days ago. And to prove their honesty, the Chinese autorithy has sent to the newspaper a copy of her passport (passport created on February 2008...strange...) that claims she was born in 1992.
At the same time, an archive of the Daily China has been found : a tv report that talks about He Kexing as a "14-year-old new comer". The Daily China now denies this piece of information.
Unfortunately, the IOC won't keep on inquiring on the subject. Could someone tell me why ?

Sportswomen will take blood test to verify their sex
News from : www.lesjeuxolympiques2008.com
Here is a new debate about these Olympics : Beijing authorities set up a lab that aims at checking athletes' sex thanks to blood analysis.
This topic is not pretty new. During the Mexico Olympics in 1968, somes sportswomen have been reproched to take so much anabolic steroids that they almost turned into men. But this pratice wasn't welcomed by athletes and also by public opinion, judging those tests humiliating for people. Thus they were given up.

Later, the IOC wanted to do genetical test to check XX and XY chromosomes, but geneticists replied with important arguments : 1/1000 child was born with incompatibilty between its true sex and his chromosomes.
In 1996, sportswomen that have taken those tests proved that they suffer from this incompatibility and the tests were abandoned.
Beijing creates now a new controversy bringing thoses tests back.
